The Women's EHF EURO 2024 is set to be a milestone in women’s handball history as for the first time the tournament will feature 24 nations – that means it is the biggest Women’s EURO to date! From November 28 to December 15, 2024, the teams will take to the court across three countries – Austria, Hungary and Switzerland. Three countries with different cultures but one strong love for handball binds them all together. Hence, the tournament’s logo reflects this shared spirit, we have the red, green and white of the three countries dynamically coming together in ball-form.
Three hosts, four cities, one common love
Basel (Switzerland), Innsbruck (Austria), and Debrecen (Hungary) are the host cities and the hot spots for the tournament’s preliminary rounds. Basel, a traditional Swiss city nestled on the border of France and Germany, offers a city with a vibrant art scene, quintessential Swiss architecture, and delectable chocolate treats – a true feast for the senses. St. Jakobshalle in Basel will be the handball stage and the epicentre of Swiss sport, is a multi-purpose sports arena with a capacity of 6,500.
We move further east across the Austrian border for our next destination: Innsbruck. Tyrol’s capital presents a unique fusion of urban life, cultural richness, and natural beauty. It’s a city that captivates explorers, pleasure-seekers, and those in search of inspiration. Surrounded by beautiful Austrian Alps the Olympiahalle will host the matches here with its 8,000 seats.
Just shy of 1,000 km further to the east we reach our final destination of the preliminary round, Debrecen. Boasting a wealth of historical landmarks alongside contemporary structures, bustling shopping districts, and lively pubs and cafés, the city garners considerable interest for visitors. The Főnix Aréna in Debrecen is the newly renovated multi-purpose sports arena with a capacity of 6,500 that will host the matches assigned to the city.
